is a multidisciplinary association of professional counselors whose training and experience enable them to serve a wide spectrum of client populations.
Membership as of July1,2007 is 1118
This association has two primary purposes;
(1) To promote the recognition of professional Mental Health Counselors as qualified treatment providers in the minds of other professionals, the media, and the public at large and
(2) To involve professional counselors in an organization committed to the active promotion of their interests and concerns in the Illinois State Legislature as well as in the parent organizations of ICA and AMHCA .
IMHCA seeks the involvement of all its members in the process of communicating common concerns and mobilizing effective action to accomplish its goals.
IMHCA supports a part-time Executive Director
publishes a bi-monthly quarterly newsletter
conducts an annual spring conference, and
is a charter member of the Coalition of Illinois Counseling Organizations.
IMHCA leaders and members were in the forefront of the effort to obtain counselor licensure in Illinois and are currently engaged in serious efforts to get recognition and acceptance for all masters level counselors as mental health providers by federal and state agencies as well as with businesses, insurance companies and managed care companies.
IMHCA Dues are:
$50.00 for a Professional Member
$10.00 for a Student or Retired
Membership in the Illinois Counseling Association is required for membership in any of the divisions.
