"The Call to Serve"
People who are fueled by a sense of calling about service—a deep feeling of purpose and connection to something greater than themselves, and a match between who they are and what they do—will bring that kind of passion and spirit to their jobs and careers, their clients and employers, their lives and the lives of others. These are people who are called, not just driven, and who work from passion, not just ambition. They also understand that when they insist on their own vitality, they stake a claim for everyone’s vitality. This keynote explores the call to serve, and how we can not only embody it but spread it, inspiring service and stewardship at all levels. It will also help counselors gain clarity and courage to take whatever Next Steps will deepen their own alignment (or realignment) with the call to serve.
Saturday Keynote: Rob Reinhardt, LPCS, NCC
Navigating Social Media Ethics – Potential Pitfalls in Online Communications
Social Media is an integral part of life for most of our clients as well as the businesses and other entities that they interact with. For counselors, social media can facilitate connecting with new clients as well as collaborating with peers. However, unlike other most other businesses, the guarantee of privacy and confidentiality are integral to our work. Where other businesses can solicit reviews from happy customers, we are prohibited. While other professionals can freely “talk shop” online, we must exercise caution to protect our clients' privacy. There are still many ways that counselors, can benefit from the use of social media, however, we much ensure that we comply with federal law (HIPAA) and codes of ethics. This presentation will discuss the pitfalls of discussing clients online, reviews and testimonials, and the general use of social media. We will also identify positive, productive ways that these tools can be engaged.
