Workshop Description:

In this engaging presentation, we will address the unique needs of high-risk youth specifically in urban communities, exploring the challenges they face, such as emotional dysregulation, trauma, gun violence, and social isolation. By understanding these needs, we can effectively tailor our approach to foster resilience and well-being.

We will emphasize the importance of compassion—both for oneself and for others. Participants will learn how to cultivate a compassionate mindset, which can help build trust and connection among group members. Through self-reflexive work, attendees will be encouraged to examine their own biases and experiences, enhancing their ability to relate to and support the youth they serve.

The presentation will also cover practical meditation techniques and mindfulness practices designed for high-risk youth. We will focus on simplifying these concepts, using relatable language and examples that resonate with their lived experiences. This will involve interactive activities that encourage participation and buy-in, ensuring that the youth feel invested in their mindfulness journey.

Learning Objectives:

1. Enhance Emotional Awareness: Participants will learn techniques to help high-risk youth recognize and articulate their emotions, fostering greater emotional intelligence and regulation.

2. Cultivate Compassion and Connection: Attendees will develop strategies to build a compassionate environment that encourages trust and empathy among group members, promoting healthy interpersonal relationships.

3. Implement Accessible Mindfulness Practices: Participants will gain practical skills to introduce and teach mindfulness and meditation techniques in a relatable manner, ensuring youth engagement and active participation in their own well-being.
